Mustang cagers eye rebound season

Medina Journal-Register — Led by a quintet of returnees, Medina is looking to rebound from back-to-back 2-12 Niagara-Orleans League seasons.

Seniors Lonnie Taylor and Ryan Thompson along with juniors Dan Brown and Ben McPherson and sophomore Jason Hellwig lead the way for Medina which went 5-14 overall a year ago.

“The key is out ability to come together as a team,” coach Tom Forrestel said. “We’re pretty athletic and pretty quick but we have to play together as a team, that’s our focal point.”

The Mustangs lineup also includes juniors Larry Bruning, Kevin Arnold, Josh Cuadrado, Drake Grabowski, Cedric Griffith, Forest Harper, Adam Hoot, sophomore Devonte Howard and senior exchange student Ansin Chiu.

Medina’s key losses to graduation were Lucas Evans and Stephen Rogenmoser.

The Mustangs will visit Oakfield-Alabama on Dec. 3 and host Burgard of Buffalo on Dec. 14 before opening the season at CSAT on Dec. 20.

“For sure CSAT is the team to beat. They’ve got a lot coming back,” Forrestel said.

CSAT, which is led by first team All-League honoree Darnell Carson, tied with Akron at 9-5 last year just bedding N-O co-champions Newfane and Wilson, both at 11-3.
