Bees nip Mustangs

Medina Journal-Register — With a large Homecoming week crowd on hand and a playoff atmosphere in the air, undefeated (8-0-1) Byron-Bergen edged past Medina/Lyndonville 2-1 Monday night in a non league intersectional contest at Vets Park.

Medina jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 15 minutes remaining in the first half on a penalty kick goal by Thomas Goetze, his 10th goal of the season.

However, Byron-Bergen rallied to knot the contest with just over two minutes remaining in the opening half on a goal by Austin Richardson on a direct kick.

Keeping the momentum, the Bees then quickly scored what proved to be the game winning early in the second half as Richardson netted his team leading 13th goal of the season.

Adam Hoot came up with several big stops in goal for the Mustangs.

Now at 4-6 overall, Medina next visits rival Albion at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in a Niagara-Orleans League game.
