Elba tops Albion

Medina Journal-Register — ELBA - Taking charge with a big second quarter scoring burst Elba went on to defeat Albion 51-42 Monday in a non league girls basketball game.

Leading by a narrow 20-16 margin, Elba erupted with a big 19-5 run in the second period in route to opening up a 39-24 half-time advantage.

A three and a lay-up by Kelsey Bezon, two lay-ups by McKenzie Bezon and a three by Alex Reigle highlighted the Lady Lancers decisive uprising.

Jamie Marshall finished with a game high 22 points and McKenzie Bezon 14 to lead the way for Elba.

Justice Nauden scored 14 and Kelsee Soule 12 to pace Albion. Eboni Taylor and Sarah Papponetti both added seven and Chanyce Powell two for the Purple Eagles.

Marshall had the hot hand early scoring 12 in the first quarter sparking Elba out to a 17-11 lead. Nauden answered with nine to keep Albion close.

The Purple Eagles did slice the deficit to four, 20-16, early in the second period after a lay-up by Papponetti and three by Soule but the Purple Eagles could get no closer.

Elba pulled back out to a 15 point, 39-24, lead at the half and maintained a 15 point, 45-30, advantage at the thee-quarter mark.

Albion could get no closer down the stretch than the final nine point, 51-42, margin.

Albion next hosts Akron at 7 p.m. Friday in the Niagara-Orleans League opener.

Boys Basketball

Alexander 60, Albion 26

ALEXANDER - Building up leads of 17-7 after one quarter and 33-18 at the half, Alexander went on to defeat Albion 60-26 Monday in a non league contest.

Marquise Riddick scored eight, Freddie Koester and Tre Allport six and Connor Barleben and Ryan Fannin three for Albion which slips to 0-3.

Albion next visits Akron Friday in the N-O opener.

Barker 80, Elba 70

ELBA - Jacob Haight exploded for 40 points and grabbed off 20 rebounds to lead Barker to a 80-70 non league victory over Elba Tuesday.
