Medina Journal-Register — Making it six wins in a row, the Niagara-Orleans League posted a 55-43 victory over the Genesee Region League Friday in the 14th annual Exceptional Senior girls basketball game at Medina High.

Medina’s Alba Perez scored a game high 16 points and Newfane’s Katie Shaw tallied 14 to lead the way for the N-O which extends its lead in the series to 10-4. Newfane’s Maddy Passuite added 9 and Akron’s Courtney Hallett-Jonathan 8.

The G-R did jump out to a 12-9 first quarter lead as Becca Bykowski (Alexander) and Missy Engle (Elba) both had a pair of baskets.

The N-O answered with an 8-0 run to open the second quarter, including two buckets each by Perez and Shaw, to rally into a 17-12 lead.

However, the G-R closed the period with a 11-5 run, including six by Maria Dominick (Alexander) and five by Bykowski, to regain a narrow 23-22 lead at the half.

Perez, who made a late three-point play to pull the N-O within one at the break, had seven in the period and Shaw six.

The N-O finally moved on top to stay by outscoring the G-R 16-8 in the third period to grab a 38-31 advantage. Hallett-Jonathan and Passuite both had a pair of baskets and Shaw chipped in with a three to lead that uprising.
