Purple Eagles top Raiders

Medina Journal-Register — BARKER - Taking charge with a big seven run third inning, defending champion Albion went on to defeat Barker 12-3 Monday in a Niagara-Orleans League make-up game.

A two-run double by Chris Reed and an RBI single by Ed Narburgh highlighted the decisive third inning for Albion which was sparked by singles by John Warne and winning pitcher Connor Barleben.

The Purple Eagles also scored twice in the first inning on a single by Noah Preston and a fielders choice play off the bat of Barleben and twice in the sixth as Steven Stauss doubled.

Warne, Stauss, John Page and John Krieger each finished with two hits.

Barleben pitched the first four innings allowing two hits and striking out seven. Preston came on to pitch the fifth and sixth inning striking out four and giving up one hit and Jack Narburgh hurled the seventh allowing one hit with two strikeouts.

Albion improves to 2-0 and Barker slips to 1-1.

Williamsville South 8, Medina 3

Medina scored two quick runs in the first inning but managed just one more tally after that as Williamsville South rallied to down the Mustangs 8-3 Monday in a non league game at Vets Park.

Hits by Jake Cotriss and Dustin Wells helped plate the first inning runs for Medina which also scored once in the second.

Damien Powers had three hits including a home run and Tyler Hartford three including a triple to lead the way for Williamsville South which scored twice in the third inning and three times in the fifth.
