Medina Journal-Register — AKRON - Taking over sole possession of first place, defending champion Albion posted a 9-2 victory over Akron Tuesday in a key Niagara-Orleans League baseball game.
Albion improves to 7-1 and Akron slips to 6-2.
Medina stayed in the thick of the title chase at 6-2 by scoring a pair of road victories to begin the week defeating Wilson 5-1 on Monday and CSAT 7-2 on Tuesday.
Albion took charge at the outset at Akron scoring four quick runs in the first inning on a two-run single by winning pitcher Chris Reed and RBI singles by Ed Narburgh and Steven Stauss. John Page and Connor Barleben also both chipped in with singles during the upswing.
“We talked before the game about jumping on them early and we did,” Albion coach Bruice Blanchard said. “We came out swinging.”
Page and Stauss both finished with a total of three hits as Ed Narburgh, Reed and Jack Narburgh each added two.
Albion added two runs in the third in a single by Jack Narburgh and an error and two more in the sixth on a sacrifice by John Warne and a double by Stauss.
On the mound, Reed allowed five hits and struck out five in six innings of work.
Medina 7, CSAT 2
Matt Riemer went the distance on the mound for Medina against CSAT scattering five hits and striking out six.
Jake Cotriss led the Mustangs as the plate banging out four hits. Tyler Colonna, and Dustin Wells both added a pair of hits.
Medina took charge in the third inning scoring four times on RBI singles by Cotriss and Colonna along with a pair of wild pitches. An error and a single by Wells ignited the uprising

WILSON - Adam Hoot hurled a three hitter with 11 strikeouts to lead Medina past Wilson 5-1 on Monday in a N-O League make-up game.
