Albion nips Barker

Medina Journal-Register — ALBION - Snapping a three league game losing streak, Albion edged past Barker 7-6 Wednesday in a Niagara-Orleans contest.

Breaking away from a 6-6 deadlock, Albion scored what proved to be the game winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Kelsee Soule singled and came home on a fielders choice play.

Barker had tied the game at 6-6 in the fifth on a two-run single by Abigail Heitzenrater. Kelsey Blackley’s second single of the day followed by two walks set up the opportunity. However, Albion got out of further trouble as Soule bore down to register two clutch strikeouts. She had a total of 12 strikeouts on the day.

The Lady Raiders also scored thee times in the fourth inning on two errors and an RBI single by Destinee Hillman to take a brief 4-3 lead.

Albion answered right back with three runs in the home half of the fourth on an RBI double by Soule, a wild pitch and an error. Two out singles by Sarah Papponetti and Ali O’Hearn ignited that rally.

Albion also tallied three times in the second inning on an RBI double by Kelsey Schmitt and a two-run error.

Schmitt had a total of three hits as Soule and Erika Edwards both added two.

Albion improves to 3-5 and Barker slips to 2-6.
