Medina Journal-Register — ALBION - Snapping a three league game losing streak, Albion edged past Barker 7-6 Wednesday in a Niagara-Orleans contest.
Breaking away from a 6-6 deadlock, Albion scored what proved to be the game winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Kelsee Soule singled and came home on a fielders choice play.
Barker had tied the game at 6-6 in the fifth on a two-run single by Abigail Heitzenrater. Kelsey Blackley’s second single of the day followed by two walks set up the opportunity. However, Albion got out of further trouble as Soule bore down to register two clutch strikeouts. She had a total of 12 strikeouts on the day.
The Lady Raiders also scored thee times in the fourth inning on two errors and an RBI single by Destinee Hillman to take a brief 4-3 lead.
Albion answered right back with three runs in the home half of the fourth on an RBI double by Soule, a wild pitch and an error. Two out singles by Sarah Papponetti and Ali O’Hearn ignited that rally.
Albion also tallied three times in the second inning on an RBI double by Kelsey Schmitt and a two-run error.
Schmitt had a total of three hits as Soule and Erika Edwards both added two.
Albion improves to 3-5 and Barker slips to 2-6.
Akron 7, Medina 6
AKRON - A two run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning earned Akron (6-1) a narrow 7-6 victory over Medina (4-4).
Morgan Carberry singled in the tying and winning runs in the seventh for Akron.
Medina had scored three quick runs in the first inning as Stormi Kruger and Jessica Rosenbeck both had RBI singles.
The Mustangs later tallied twice in the fifth on a two-run double by Arden Zavitz.
Olivia Hermann had a total of three hits, including a triple, for Medina as Kruger and Rosenbeck both added two.
Roy-Hart 13. CSAT 3
BUFFALO - Brianna Walker hurled a three hitter with seven strikeouts to lead Roy-Hart (7-1) past CSAT (0-9) 13-3.
Sam Brown had three hits for the Lady Rams.
Newfane 12, Wilson 2
NEWFANE - Trailing 1-0, front-running Newfane erupted for six runs in the second inning to key a 12-2 victory over rival Wilson and improve to 8-1.
A two-run single by Gabby Sinnott ignited that uprising.
Jamie Kerwin and winning pitcher Alexis Moreland both had three hits on the day. Moreland’s hits included a home run.
Katie Shaw also drove in two runs and Shannon Shaw one for the Lady Panthers.
Moreland struck out six and allowed four hits.
Wilson drops to 2-5.
