Mustangs upend Lady Rams

Medina Journal-Register — Avenging an earlier season loss, Medina upended Roy-Hart 9-8 at Vets Park Saturday to regain the .500 mark at 5-5 in Niagara-Orleans League softball action.

Defending champion Albion likewise regained the .500 mark at 5-5 by posting an 8-3 victory over visiting Wilson Friday.

Stormi Kruger belted two home runs and drove in a total of five runs and Emily Austin added three RBIs on a pair of hits to lead the Medina attack. Kruger and Jessica Rosenbeck both had a total of three hits as Austin and Emma Fish both added two.

Ashley Bower had four hits, including a home run and Lindsay Yates three for Roy-Hart which also got two from Hannah Rausch.

Medina built up an early 7-1 advantage by scoring three times in the second inning on a two-run homer by Kruger and an RBI single by Austin, and then four times in the third on two-run singles by both Austin and Kruger.

Roy-Hart though battled back to within one at 7-6 by scoring twice in the fourth on a single by Yates and a fielders chocie play, and then three times in the fifth on a two-run single by Yates and an RBI single by Rauch.

However, Medina answered with two big runs in the home half of the fifth on a solo home run by Kruger and an error to take a 9-6 lead.

Roy-Hart rallied back to within one at 9-8 after a two-run home by Bower in the sixth but the Lady Rams could not pull even.

Allison Bensley hurled Medina to the win as a first inning double play by second baseman Mallorie Wienke highlighted the defense.

The loss drops Roy-Hart to 7-2 and out of a share of the N-O lead.

Albion 8, Wilson 3

ALBION - Winning pitcher Kelsee Soule helped herself by banging out a two-run single in the first inning to put Albion on top to stay at 2-0. An error and a single by Meghan Hurley set up that threat.
