Medina Journal-Register — Pushing across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning Medina nipped Roy-Hart 6-5 Monday to improve to 8-2 in Niagara-Orleans League baseball action.
Defending champion Albion maintained a one game lead a top the N-O standings at 9-1 by outslugging host Wilson 16-8.
Matt Riemer doubled in the winning run for the Mustangs snapping a 5-5 deadlock.
Medina had jumped out to as much as a 5-1 lead after scoring twice in the second inning on an error and a balk and three times in the third on a two-run triple by Zach Newton and an RBI single by Josh Scroger.
However, Roy-Hart battled back into a 5-5 tie by scoring twice in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Ryan Farewell and twice in the sixth on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Nick Morse. A single by Farewell, who had four hits on the day, a bunt single by Josh Baptiste and an error put runners at second and third to set up that opportunity.
Making it five wins in a row, Medina, which stranded runners at second and third in the sixth, capitalized on a walk and Riemer’s big double to plate the game winner in the seventh.
Defensively, the Mustangs got a big double play in the second inning from Riemer at third to Newton at first to Dan Barnes at shortstop.
The loss drops Roy-Hart to 4-6.
Albion 16, Wilson 8
WILSON - It was a fast start and a strong finish that propelled Albion past Wilson in a wild contest Monday which saw the teams score in virtually every inning.
Albion scored six quick runs in the first inning on a two-run single by Connor Barleben, RBI singles by winning pitcher Chris Reed and Trey Hart and singles by John Page, John Warne, Steven Stauss and Jack Narburgh.
Leading 11-7, the Purple Eagles later put a lock on the victory by scoring five times in the top of the seventh on a lead-off triple by Warne, singles by Stauss, Barleben, Reed and Jack Narburgh and two passed balls.
Barleben had a total of five hits including a double and triple. Page had a total of three base raps and Warne, Stauss, Reed and Jack Narburgh two each.
Reed pitched the first four innings striking our four and Barleben ruled the final three frames fanning five as the Purple Eagles avenged their only N-O setback to date, an earlier season 9-5 loss to the Lakemen.
Wilson slips to 4-6.
Akron 13, Barker 9
Trailing 8-7, Akron rallied for five runs in the sixth inning to out last Barker 13-9 Monday as Tommy James had a two-run single and Caleb Martin and Mitchell Schultz RBI singles.
James also hit a two-run homer and Austin Meitz added a solo shot.
Akron is now 7-3 in the league and Barker 3-7.
Newfane 10, CSAT 7
Josh Kneeland banged out a two-run double and a two-run triple to lead Newfane (4-6) to a 10-7 victory over CSAT (1-9) Monday.
Newfane 3, Roy-Hart 2
Newfane (5-6) scored twice in the sixth inning on an RBI triple by Mitch Vallery and an error to key a narrow 3-2 victory over Roy-Hart (4-7) Tuesday.
Roy-Hart scored once in the fifth on a triple by Ryan Farewell and single by Blake Copella and once in the top of the sixth on singles by Josh Baptiste, Judd Jamieson and Farwell to take a brief 2-1 lead.
Oakfield-Alabama 15, Lyndonville 14
OAKFIELD - Capitalizing on nine errors and eight walks, Oakfield-Alabama rallied from a 14-2 deficit to edge past Lyndonville 15-14 Monday in a Genesee Region League contest.
Austin Buckland and Eddie Silversmith both had two hits for Lyndonville which slips to 5-5 and 8-6 overall.
