Medina stickmen romp to two wins

Medina Journal-Register — LEWISTON — Roaring out to an commanding eight goal first quarter lead, Medina went on to romp past Lew-Port 16-3 Saturday to close out the Class C Division lacrosse campaign.

Medina, which finishes the Class C season at 5-5 improves to 10-5 overall after also rolling to a 18-4 victory at Wilson on Thursday.

Kyle Barna scored five goals, Ben Austin four and Brett Pecoraro three to lead the attack for Medina in the win over Lew-Port. Tyler Valley, Nate Sanders, Matt Zacher and Anthony Grazioplene each chipped in with one.

Austin now has 63 goals on the season and Barna 59.

“I’m very proud of the kids, the way they have responded and the way they have finished games,” coach Gordy Luthart said.”

Medina took charge early building up a 9-1 advantage after one period. Barna had three goals and Pecoraro and Austin both netted two during that stretch.

“We’ve been able to get off to a fast start in our games lately and get control of the game,” said Luthart whose Mustangs have won five in a row.

The Mustangs maintained leads of 10-1 at the half and 14-3 after thee quarters. Austin netted two goals and Barna and Sanders one each in the third period.

Medina next faces Newark in a non league regular season game at 5 this afternoon at Monroe Community College.

“With six games to go we set a goal to win out and the kids have really been focused on that,” Luthart said.

Medina 18, Wilson 4

WILSON - Seven players scored goals as Medina rolled to a 18-4 victory over Wilson Thursday in a non league game.

Barna scored five goals, Austin four, Derek Fuller three and Sanders two for Medina which also got tallies by Pecoraro, Aaron Feltz, Valley and Jacob Hendershot.

Medina took control at the outset jumping out to a commanding 8-1 first period lead. Barna and Austin both netted three goals during that stretch as Fuller and Pecoraro each added one.

The Mustangs held leads o 11-1 at the half and 17-1 at the three-quarter mark.
