Medina Journal-Register — Putting together a dramatic last ditch seventh inning rally, Medina edged past Roy-Hart 1 11-10 Wednesday in the semifinals of the Midget B League playoffs.
Trailing 10-6, Medina capitalized on a rash of walks to score five runs in the final frame to claim the victory and earn a spot in the finals.
A single by Brad McPherson followed by two walks loaded the bases to set up the decisive opportunity. An error along with three bases loaded walks then forced in four runs to knot the contest.
Medina then scored the game winner as Devonte Howard hit a bases loaded single against a drawn in outfield.
Earlier, Medina had scored two quick runs in the first inning on a triple by Josh Scroger and a double by Gage Masters, one in the second on a double by Dominic DiCureia and twice in the fourth on a two-run single by Brett Riemer.
Capitalizing on two errors and a single by Austin Heschke, Roy-Hart rallied into the lead at 8-6 by scoring three runs in the fifth.
Roy-Hart upped the advantage to 10-6 by scoring twice in the top of the seventh on RBI singles by Justin Heschke and Brenden Hess before Medina rallied in the bottom of the seventh for five runs on six walks, two hits and an error.
Brennan Zinkievich earned the win on the mound for Medina.
Midget A Playoffs
Cambria 5, Medina 3
Two run scoring bursts in both the fifth and sixth innings earned Cambria a 5-3 victory over Medina Tuesday in a Midget A League playoff game.
A single, walk, error and wild pitch combined to plate two runs in the fifth for Cambria which scored the game winners in the sixth on a walk, a double and a sacrifice.
Medina did grab a 2-1 lead after scoring once in the third on a double by Abe Lang and an RBI single by Stephen Rogenmoser, and once in the fourth on a walk and an error.
Medina’s only other run came in the seventh as Josh Scroger scored and came home on a passed ball.
