Banes claims A Div. championship

Medina Journal-Register — Avenging a loss in last year’s final, Banes Machine Shop/Banes Plumbing defeated J’s 18-9 Saturday for the Medina Women’s Softball League ‘A’ Division playoff championship.

Banes took charge early erupting for seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. A two-run double by Jen Masse and a two-run single by Connie Heschke highlighted that uprising which also included key singles by Sue Bane, Robin Blaun and winning pitcher Mari Ehrenreich.

Banes quickly extended its advantage to 15-3 by scoring four times in both the second and third innings. Kathy Allen had a two-run single in the second and an RBI single in the third which featured a three-run double by Jamie Chatt.

Blaun and Chatt both finished with three hits as Heschke, Ehrenreich, Allen and Sandy Baubie each added two.

The Banes defense also came up big turning three double plays two of which went from Blaun to Allen and Meggan DiCasolo and the other from Heschke to Allen to DiCasolo.

Kathy Quackenbush had four hits for J’s as Alishia Foss, Kristen Guild, Nadine Jonathan and Dee Jonathan each had three.

Banes also blanked J’s 15-0 in the opening round sparked by a big eight run second inning. A two-run triple by Masse highlighted that uprising which also included singles by Ehrenreich, DiCasolo, Kim Cervone and Jessica Carpenter.

Banes then advanced to the title round by downing Vets 14-5 in the winners bracket final again taking charge early with five runs in the first inning and four more in the second.

Blaun had three hits in that contest as Masse added two doubles and Ehrenreich and Allen a double and single.

J’s defeated Vets 17-15 in the losers bracket final.
