Orleans County YMCA Happenings

MEDINA —

Here's what's going on at the Orleans County YMCA, with results and analysis courtesy of the Y staff.

Fall Indoor Volleyball

The playoffs are here! In our C division, No. 4 seed Set on The Beach took on No. 1 seed Main Liquor. In a surprising upset, Beach took a 2-0 victory, by a score of 50-40. Jake Miller was a key part in the team succeeding, as he never gave up on loose balls. One time he added a horizontal dive for a successful save. In the next match, No. 2 seed Misfits took on No. 3 seed Just Us. Misfits prevailed 2-0 by a score of 50-32, thanks to Paula Welker making play after play to keep her team in the game.

Our last match was the finals, where we saw Misfits take on Set on The Beach. Beach continued their Cinderella story by beating Misfits 2-0, by a score of 50-27. Keith Ward dominated the match, sending down laser spikes in the beginning of the game, sending a message that his team was just not losing.

On to B division, where No. 4 seed Bridget's Bashers took on No. 1 seed Cupcakes in a semifinal match. Cupcakes continued their roll with a 2-0 victory, by a score of 51-42. Mike Crane was the pillar of stability for Cupcakes, as he was there to dig every ball for his team and provided great tips that earned his team a lot of points.

In our second match, No. 2 seed Heisenberg took on No. 3 seed Victorious Secret in a rematch of last spring's semifinals. It was a thrilling match with the same result. Victorious Secret was able to take it 2-1, winning the final two games to advance to the finals. James Tee had his best game ever, as even the opposing team was enthralled with Tee’s performance.

Tee had crushing spikes and serves, while his signature play "The Knife" couldn't have been more accurate. In our finals, it was another rematch of last spring, as Cupcakes took on Victorious Secret. Once again, Cupcakes prevailed with a 2-0 win, by a score of 50-42. The games were close, but the combined play from Adam Tower and Marie Zimmerman was too much for Secret to overcome. Zimmerman set perfectly to Tower for debilitating kills.
