Seahorses, Panthers split

Medina Journal-Register — Taking first place in eight of 11 events, Medina defeated visiting Newfane 108-60 Thursday in a Niagara-Orleans League boys swim meet.

Gaining a split on the day the defending champion Newfane girls squad took first place in all 11 events to post a 125-45 victory over Medina.

Steven Hann was a double winner in the 50 and 100 freestyle events for the Medina boys squad which also got wins by Zach Roeseler (200 individual medley), Austin Brown (100 butterfly), Mason Roberts (100 backstroke) and Chris Horgan (100 breaststroke).

Brad Berner doubled in the 200 and 500 freestyle events for Newfane.

Medina is now 1-1 and Newfane 0-2.

The Newfane girls were led by a trio of individual event double winners as Lil Masters took the 200 and 500 free, Allie DeBiase the individual medley and 100 breaststroke and Kiki Dy the 50 free and 100 backstroke.

The Lady Panthers also had Lydia Gaughran take the 100 butterfly and Kate Bochnewetch the 100 free.

Newfane improves to 2-0 and Medina slips to 0-2.

BARKER - A trio of individual event double winners including Luke Brauer (50 and 100 free), Roy Phipps (100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke) and Jeff Durbin (200 and 500 free) led the Roy-Hart boys squad (2-0) past Barker (1-1),

The Roy-Hart girls got double win efforts from Alex Hill (200 individual medley, 500 free) and Sarah DiMayo (100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke) to go to 2-0 as Barker slips to 1-1.

AKRON - Anthony Laurienzo doubled in the 50 free and 100 butterfly and Andrew Grant in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke to pace Akron which goes to 2-0 while Albion drops to 0-2.

Julia Diebel doubled in the individual medley and 500 free and Becca Donner in the 50 and 100 free for the Akron girls squad which goes to 1-1 as Albion falls to 0-2.
