Medina Journal-Register — WILSON - Pounding out 11 hits, including two home runs, defending champion Albion bested Wilson 10-6 Monday in a key early season Niagara-Orleans League softball game.
Albion scored five quick runs in the first inning highlighted by a three-run homer by Erika Edwards. Singles by Sarah Papponetti, Ali O’Hearn and Halle Jurs ignited the uprising.
Kelsee Soule followed up with a two-run homer for the Purple Eagles in the second inning.
Leading by a narrow 7-6 margin, Albion finally put a lock on the victory by scoring three times in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Soule and a two-run double by Jessica Grimes. A lead-off double by Papponetti and a single by O’Hearn set up that opportunity.
“That was a huge win for us, a huge win,” said Albion coach Gary Parisi. “We really hit the ball well.”
Papponetti finished with a total of three hits as Soule, Jurs and Edwards each added two. Soule drove in a total of five runs.
Albion pitcher Meghan Hurley scattered six hits.
Kelly Secor had three hits and two RBIs for Wilson.
Roy-Hart 5, Medina 0
MIDDLEPORT - Out hit 2-1, Roy-Hart capitalized on walks and errors to blank Medina 5-0 Monday in an N-O contest.
Roy-Hart scored three quick runs in the first inning on a two-run error and a wild pitch. Two hits and a hit batsman loaded the bases to set up the threat.
The Lady Rams added two runs in the third on an two out error after hit batters put two runners aboard.
Taylor Fry had Roy-Hart’s only hit while Jessica Rosenbeck had a double and Emma Fish a single for Medina.
Roy-Hart pitcher Brianna Walker struck out 10.
Newfane 11, CSAT 3
BUFFALO - Katie Shaw hurled a two hitter with three strikeouts to lead Newfane past CSAT 113 Monday.
At the plate, Shannon Shaw had a triple and single, Katie Kerwin a two-run triple and Katie Shaw two hits and two RBIs.
