Medina Journal-Register — ALBION — Chanyce Powell and Justice Nauden combined for 13 of Albion’s 19 third-quarter points as the Purple Eagles overcame a slow start to defeat Barker in Niagara-Orleans League action Friday.
Barker raced out to a 14-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. By halftime, Albion had clawed back to trail by one, 22-21.
In the second half, the Purple Eagles put their collective foot on the gas and did not let up, outscoring Barker 32-7 the rest of the way as they raced to a 53-29 win.
“I think part of what happened is we turned up our intensity on defense and made some baskets on offense,” said Lucian Price, the Albion coach.
“It’s the second game in a row where we came out flat, but the girls rallied and really came out hard in the second half,” he added, noting there was not any one strategic key to the run.
Powell finished the game with 19 points to lead all scorers. She also grabbed 12 rebounds.
Nauden ended the night with 10 points and four assists, while Kelsee Soule poured in 11 points.
Julia Atwater and Caitlyn Mason paced Barker’s offense with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
With the win Albion improved to 6-5 (5-2 league). The Purple Eagles host Akron Tuesday.
