Medina, Newfane tie in OT

Medina Journal-Register — For the second time this season Medina and Newfane have battled to a 1-1 overtime tie in Niagara-Orleans League field hockey competition, this time on Thursday at Vets Park.

In the other N-O action, front-running Barker stayed perfect at 9-0 by blanking Wilson (1-8) 11-0 and Roy-Hart upended Akron 2-0 to improve to 6-4.

Newfane grabbed a 1-0 lead midway through the first half as Leah Burns scored off an assist from Morgan Bedford.

Medina though battled back to knot the contest as Olivia Hermann scored from Mallori Wienke with 2:13 remaining in the first half.

Newfane goalie Sam Summers came up Îwith a big stop on a Medina penalty stroke opportunity in the second half to keep the contest knotted.

Medina is now 0-9-2 and Newfane 2-6-2.

Roy-Hart 2, Akron 0

Roy-Hart got goals by Casidhe Herschke, off a corner by Kylie Majka, and by Marissa Catalano, off an assist from Rielly Albee, to upend Akron which slips to 5-4.

Barker 11, Wilson 0

Olivia Denny scored three goals and Gaby Clare two to lead the scoring parade for Barker in the win over Wilson which drops to 1-8.
