Medina netters retain N-O title

Medina Journal-Register — Medina scored a pair of road victories, 5.5-0 at Albion Wednesday and 4.5-1 at Barker Thursday to lock up out right possession of a second straight Niagara-Orleans League tennis title.

The victories boost Medina’s record to 11-0 and gives the Mustangs a three match lead over runner-up Barker (8-3) with only one match remaining.

“We’re very happy to lock up the title and now we want to finish strong,” Medina coach Chris Horgan said.

Medina was led in both matches by straight set victories by the singles trio of Chris Horgan, Ben Howell and Kristian Snyder. Horgan and Snyder are now both 11-0 on the season and Howell 10-1.

In the match against Albion the Mustangs also got straight set wins by the doubles teams of Arsalan Mustafa - Troy Fidanza, Nate Pace - Sibtain Mustafa and Rich Craft - Tristan Sanders. The duos of Arsalan Mustafa - Fidanza and Craft - Sam Busch also both posted wins against Barker.

“We had a strong performance against another strong team “coach Horgan said of the title clinching win over Barker. “The kids have done a terrific job so far. We’ve got solid play at every position. I’m very happy with out play. We’re looking to play aggressively and I’m happy with the depth we have.”

The loss drops Albion to 5-5.

Roy-Hart 3, Newfane 2.5

Victories by the singles trio of Jeff Durbin, Brad Bobbitt and Eddie Pfeil powered Roy-Hart (3-7) past Newfane (0-9) 3-2.5 Thursday.
