Medina faces new tourney foe

Medina Journal-Register — A new opponent will provide the opposition as Medina facessn girls basketball tournament.

Avon will face Wilson Magnet of Rochester in the second game.

The consolation and championship games are scheduled for 6 and 8 p.m. Friday.

Medina brings a 3-0 record into the tourney.

The Mustangs have been led by Alba Perez who is averaging 21 points per outing. Tanisha Robinson is averaging 10 and Abby Button seven.

The Medina boys squad is also slated to be in action this evening as the Mustangs will face the host Spartans at 6:30 p.m. in the opening round of the Starpoint Tournament. Lockport will face Niagara Catholic in the other game.

The consolation and finals are slated for 5 and 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Lonnie Taylor leads the Medina offense with a 21 point average. Dan Brown is averaging 11 and Jason Hellwig eight.

On the wrestling mats, Holley will host the nine team Holley Duals tournament Friday and Saturday.

Competition will begin at 10 a.m. both days as the field includes Holley, defending champion Webter Schroder, Hilton, Brockport, McQuaid, Wilson Magnet, Alden, Amherst and Greece.

The Medina wrestlers will be competing in the Sweet Home Tournament Saturday while Albion and Lyndonville will be at the Akron Tournament also

on Saturday.
