Wilson downs Medina;Newfane tops Albion

Medina Journal-Register — Coming up with big road victories, Wilson defeated Medina 65-40 and Newfane downed Albion 42-33 Friday to remain deadlocked for the Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball lead at 6-0 heading into Tuesday’s key mid season showdown contest at Wilson.

In other N-O action, Roy-Hart bested host Barker 42-32.

Wilson 65, Medina 40

Jamie Curry poured in a game high 21 points, including four threes, Kate Placek 15, including nine of 10 from the free throw line, and Alex Bubar 10 to lead Wilson’s fast break attack.

Alba Perez scored 15 and Tanisha Robinson 11 for Medina which slips to 3-3.

Curry scored 10 quick points in the first quarter, including two threes, to spark Wilson out to a 13-5 lead.

Keeping the running game going, Wilson doubled its advantage to 16 at 32-16 by half-time as Curry tallied eight and Placek six in the second period.

Getting point production from six different plays, Wilson upped its lead to 19, 48-29, at the three-quarter mark.

Newfane 42, Albion 33

ALBION - Leading by a narrow 30-28 margin, Newfane outscored Albion 12-5 in the decisive fourth quarter to claim the key win and maintain a share of the league lead.

Jordan Beutel scored a game high 19 points to lead the way for Newfane.

Kelsee Soule paced Albion with 14 points. Soule netted five in both the first and third perios and Eboni Taylor tallied six in the third.

Albion, which slips to 4-2, led 9-6 after one quarter and 17-15 at the half.

Roy-Hart 42, Barker 32

MIDLEPORT - Jumping out to a 16-6 first quarter lead, Roy-Hart went on to defeat Barker 42-32.

Olivia Kelkenberg scored five and Emma Lindke and Stephanie Riegle four each to spark the Lady Rams in the opening quarter.

Roy-Hart went on to lead 22-16 at the half and 30-24 after three-quarters. Kelkenberg then tallied seven in the fourth period to help the Lady Rams lock up the win.

Kelkenberg finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  Lindke added seven assists and four steals to go along with five points.  

Roy-Hart and Barker are now both at 2-4.
