Lady Tigers rollon Senior Night

Medina Journal-Register — LYNDONVILLE - Celebrating Senior Night in style, Lyndonville romped to a 46-30 victory over Wheatland-Chili Friday in a Genesee Region League girls basketball game.

The Lyndonville attack was led by the senior quartet of Courtney Traxler who scored 16 points, Sierra VanWycke 9, Haley Anderson 7 and Alex Harling 6. Juniors Jenna Castricone added 6 and Madison Gardepe 2 to round out the offense for the Lady Tigers.

“I was really pleased with the way they put everything together,” Lyndonville coach Sherri Janas said. “I knew they had it in them to play like this. They just needed the confidence.”

Jaclyn Styker led Wheatland-Chili with 12.

Lyndonville took the lead for good by a narrow 9-7 margin at the end of the first quarter. A late rebound bucket by Castricone, which snapped a 7-7 tie, capped off that stanza which also included two buckets by Traxler.

Lyndonville upped the lead to 20-12 by half-time as VanWycke tallied seven, including five straight to open the period.

Keeping the momentum, the Lady Tigers then broke the game wide open by putting together a 12-2 scoring burst to start the third period. Traxler and Anderson both had a pair of baskets and Castricone and Harling one each during that uprising as the Lady Tigers moved out to an 18 point, 32-14 advantage.

Lyndonville maintained a 16 point, 34-18 advantage at the three-quarter mark. Traxler netted six and Anderson four in the stanza.

W-C could get no closer than nine down the stretch as six points by Traxler and Harling four to lead Lyndonville during that stretch.

“Defensively everything clicked for them,” said Janas of her charges effort. “Their passing and screens were good and they looked for the open player. Everything just came together. They played so great as a team.”

Lyndonville improves to 4-10 with the win.

Dansville 49, Albion 33

ALBION - A big third quarter scoring surge sparked Dansville to a 49-33 victory over Albion Saturday afternoon in a non league contest.

Leading by a narrow 20-17 margin, Dansville put together a 12-2 run in the third quarter to break the contest open. Kelsey Poplawski spearheaded that uprising by scoring 10 of her game high 20 points on two threes and a pair of lay-ups off steals.

The run helped Dansville move out to s 34-24 advantage at the three-quarter mark.

Poplawski then helped the Mustangs put a lock on the victory by scoring 11 points in the final stanza.

Kelsee Soule led Albion with 13 as Chanyce Powell added eight, Justice Nauden five, Eboni Taylor four, Sarah Papponetti two and Mandy Covis one.

Albion grabbed a 8-7 lead at the end of the first quarter but Dansville rallied back into a 20-15 half-time advantage.

Albion briefly cut the deficit back to three, 20-17, on a jumper by Powell at the outset of the third period but Dansville answered with the Poplawski led 12-2 run to pull away for good.

Dansville improves to 13-3 and Albion slips to 6-8.
