Medina Journal-Register — ALBION - Avenging an earlier season four point (57-53) home court loss, Medina bested rival Albion 52-43 Tuesday in a Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball game.
Lonnie Taylor scored a game high 23 points and Dan Brown added 16 to lead the Medina attack.
Tre Allport scored 15 and Freddie Koester 12 to pace Albion.
Medina jumped out to a commanding 17 point, 19-2, first quarter advantage as Taylor netted eight and Brown six in the early going.
Albion did cut the deficit a bit to 10, 26-16, at the half as Marquise Riddick hit three buckets and Allport and Christian Trevino both made threes.
However, Medina anwered with a 17-10 third period scoring surge to regain a 17 point, 43-26, advantage at the three-quarter mark. Taylor scored seven and Brown and Ben McPherson four each to lead that uprising.
Albion did battle back to witin seven, 43-36, after opening the final period with a 10-0 run including a three and a lay-up by Allport and a lay-up and three free throws by Koester.
A big three-point play by Brown finally ended Medina’s scoring drought and Taylor and Adam Hoot followed up with free throws to up the Mustangs lead back to 12, 48-36,
Albion could get no closer than eight, 48-40, after that following four straight free throws by Koester, as two buckets by Taylor, on a lay-up and rebound closed out the Medina win.
Both teams are now 2-9 in N-O action.
CSAT 73, Barker 68
BUFFALO - Front-running CSAT (11-0) edged past Barker (4-7) 73-68 as Darnell Carson scored 27 and Dylante Carson 19 to lead the Eagles.
Jacob Haight took game high scoring honors ith 28 and Mitch Luckman added 19 to lead Baker.
Barker led 19-14 after one quarter and 34-27 at the half but CSAT used a 25-16 third period surge to rally int oa narrow 53-50 lead at the three-quarter mark.
Akron 57, Wilson 37
WILSON - Connor Ladd scored 21 to spark Akron (9-2) past Wilson (1-10) 57-37.
