Medina Journal-Register — MIDDLEPORT - Snapping a brief two game losing streak, Roy-Hart bested Albion 74-68 Saturday to improve to 8-4 in Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball action.
Blake Copella poured in a season high 31 points to spearhead the Roy-Hart attack which also included 12 by Ryan Farewell and 11 by Brad Bobbitt.
Ryan Fannin scored 16, Freddie Koester and Andrew Burroughs 12 each and Marquise Riddick 11 for Albion which slips to 2-10.
Leading from wire-to-wire, Roy-Hart jumped out to a 7-0 lead at the outset on a lay-up and a rebound bucket by Copella and a three by Bobbitt.
Back-to-back lay-ups by Copella and Bobbitt upped the Rams lead to 15-8 late in the period but setting the trend for the afternoon, the Purple Eagles cut the deficit back to three, 17-14, by the end of the quarter on late lay-ups by Fannin and Christian Trevino.
Threes by Cody Breedlove and Copella helped boots Roy-Hart’s lead back to 10, 28-18, early in the second quarter but Albion answered with threes by Burroughs, Koester and Riddick to stay within eight, 40-32, at the half.
Roy-Hart pulled back out to a 16 point, 54-38, advantage midway through the third period after an 11-2 run which included a three-point play and a lay-up off a steal by Copella and a jumper by Alex Stoddard.
Albion though again came battling back to within nine, 5847, at the three-quarter mark as Fannin netted seven quick points including a layup off a steal.
Getting two rebound buckets by Stoddard along with a lay-up and a three-point play by Copella, Roy-Hart moved back out to a big 17 point, 67-50, advantage with 4:30 remaining.
Albion though came rallying back one last time as a barrage of three threes by Burroughs and a lay-up off a steal by Riddick helped to pull the Purple Eagles to within four, 72-68, in the final minute but the visitors could get no closer.
