ALBION EXTENDS DIAMOND REIGN

Medina Journal-Register — ALBION - Led by a solid starting pitching trio Albion posted a 12-2 record this spring to win a second straight Niagara-Orleans League baseball championship.

That trio of seniors Chris Reed and John Page and junior Connor Barleben anchored the lineup for the Purple Eagles ho have now claimed the N-O crown five of the past six years.

“Our pitching was our strength,” said Albion head coach Bruce Blanchard. “Our first goal is always to win the league and the N-O had a lot of parity this year so it was tough. It wasn’t an easy league so we were very pleased to go 12-2 and win it. I think our pitching was what separated us. We were just deeper pitching wise.”

Junior catcher John Warne, a three year starter, anchored the infield which also included Barleben, Page, Reed, senior Ed Narburgh and junior Steven Stauss depending on who was pitching.

Senior Jack Narburgh and freshmen Trey Hart anchored the outfield for the Purple Eagles whose lineup also included senior Tyiler Neilans and juniors John Krieger, Noah Preston, Zach McMullen and Zach Neilans.

“Offensivley we got hits when we needed to and defensively we played well,” Blanchard said. “We had real good chemistry on this team. Everybody fit into their role. I’m just very proud of these kids.”
