Albion vaulter places second at state meet

Medina Journal-Register — Albion High junior Justyn Haines placed second in the Division 2 (small schools) pole vault competition at the state track and field championships held over the weekend at Middletown.

Haines, who was making his second appearance at the state championships, had a best vault of 14-3.

He qualified for a return trip to the states by winning the Section VI pole vault title with a vault of 14-0.

Barker High junior Jacob Haight placed second in the Division 2 high jump with a leap of 6-4.

Lyndonville High exchange student Annika Klingenberg placed second in the Division 2 triple jump competition with a jump of 34-10.25. She qualified for the states by winning the Section V competition with a jump of 34-7.

Suhr earns honor

Olympic gold medalist Jen Suhr has been selected for induction into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame.

Suhr, who is ranked No. 1 in the world won the gold medal at the London Olympics in 2012 after taking the silver at the Bejing Olympics in 2008.

The U.S. pole vault record holder, Suhr’s coach and husband is Lyndonville native Rick Suhr.
