Lady Tigers bow in state qualifier

Medina Journal-Register — CANANDAIGUA — A burst of six unanswered runs scored over three straight innings keyed Andover to a 7-3 victory over Lyndonville in the Section V Class D state qualifier softball game Saturday.

Breaking away from a 2-2 deadlock, Andover moved on top to stay by scoring twice in the third inning on a single and two errors. The winners quickly added three more runs in the fourth inning on two errors, a walk, a wild pitch and a double and one in the fifth on a walk and two singles.

Lyndonville tied the game at 2-2 by scoring once in the first inning on singles by Maddy Boyle and Jenna Castricoe and once in the third on singles by Rebekah Hoffee and Alyssa Hosueman. Casticone had wo hits on the day.

However, the Lady Tigers could not cross home plate again until the seventh inning when Madison Gardepe tripled and came home on a fielders choice play.

Lyndonville advanced to the state qualifier contest by defeating Romulus 6-5 Thursday to win the Class D-1 title, the Lady Tigers first ever sectional championship.
