Medina Journal-Register — BATAVIA - The Medina Stallions gained the Genesee Youth Soccer League U19 Division tournament title Sunday without even taking the field.
The Stallions gained the tourney title by forfeit over Albion which had to vacant its wins for the season for use of an ineligible player.
The No. 2 seed Stalllions and top seeded Albion squad had both posted narrow wins on penalty kicks Saturday in the semifinals.
The Stallions nipped Roy-Hart 3-1 on penalty kick goals by Thomas Goetze, Drew McMurray ad Nick Schroeder. Austin Smith scored on a penalty kick for Roy-Hart.
The game was deadlocked 1-1 at the end of regulation time. Both of those goals came in the first half as Andy Johnson scored first for Roy-Hart and then Schroeder tallied for the Stallions.
Albion likewise posted a 3-1 win over Pavilion on penalty kick goals by Billy Andrews, Jon Poole and Sam Remley. That contest was also tied 1-1 at the end of regulate time as Remley netted the lone Albion goal.
In the opening round, the Medina Mustangs lost to Pavilion 4-1 on penalty kicks and Roy-Hart romped past Attica 6-1. Johnson scored three goals, Smith two and Kevin Bligh one for Roy-Hart.
