Glenn L. Stewart, of Medina, passed away late Sunday night, December 29, 2013 at the Martin-Linsin Residence in Albion. Mr. Stewart was born in Medina on August 23, 1924, a son of the late Howard and Ula (Banker) Stewart.
At the age of fifteen, Glenn became the youngest member of Company F, 108th Infantry. He was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in Luzon. He served with the US Army and was discharged after five years of service. On October 25, 1952, he married the former Florine DePalma at St. Mary's Church in Holley. Mr. Stewart was employed by the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation for thirty-nine years and retired in 1986 as a Line Foreman. He was a member of the 25-Year Club at Niagara Mohawk, a communicant at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, a 3rd Degree Life Member of Medina Council #651, Knights of Columbus. He played with the Medina MACS and was a lifelong supporter of Mustang Sports. Glenn enjoyed reading and fishing. For many years, he traveled to Canada fishing with his friends.
Survivors include his daughters, Lynne Stewart and Lissa Stewart (Wayne Kelkenberg); three grandchildren, Cody, Patrick and Morgan Jones; his sister, Anita Hess; sister-in-law, Rita Stewart; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Florine, on May 12, 2011; his brother, Roy Stewart, and sisters, Ruth Pittard and Arlene Shepard.
Friends may call on Friday (3-7 PM) at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. The Rev. Daniel J. Fawls will celebrate his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 11 AM at Holy Trinity Parish/St. Mary's Church. Military Honors will be accorded at graveside at St. Mary's Cemetery by members of Lincoln Post #1483, VFW and Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion.
