John Alvar "Jack" Anderson, Jr.

The Journal-Register

John Alvar "Jack" Anderson, Jr., 78, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother and friend, passed to eternal life peacefully at home after a strong fought battle against cancer, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 28, 2013.
He was an inspiration to his eleven children, Teresa, John III, Perry, David, Trudy, John Joseph, Rich, Gene, Shirley, Mary, and Patrick; twenty-two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who were the sunshine of his life. He also grew up with five sisters and three brothers.
Jack was a man of many talents. He served in the Army as a PFC and an active member of the American Legion Post 504. For many years he was a coast to coast Produce Truck Driver. He retired from IBEW Local Union 71 as a Journeyman Lineman. Jack will be remembered for his unconditional love and support for his family, his passion for the game of golf (and a master at "sculling the ball"), for being an avid sports fan and coaching little league and his enthusiasm for NASCAR and stock car racing. He enjoyed " Honky Tonkin' ", story-telling and drinking beer and traveling to visit family around the country. He had an enormous heart and lived, loved and laughed often, more than anyone we know, but loved and adored no one more than his wife, Shirley, to whom he was married for 50 years.
He taught his children to love themselves and to stand tall and proud. Pop-pop's grandchildren were "crazy about their Pop-pop" and he taught them that they are the lights that brighten this world. Everyone that met him knew that they were in the presence of a rare and genuine man. He was a man of immense faith and love for the Lord and was thankful for everyone and everything in his life and we are certain that he was right when he said "Jesus loves me!"
Arrangements have been entrusted to Culberson Funeral Home in Hagerstown, IN. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Union Chapel, 3909 W. 950 S. Williamsburg, IN on Friday, January 3, 2013 at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in honor of his memory to the American Cancer Society or your local American Legion.
