Jean G. Howell

Jean G. Howell passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the Medina Memorial Hospital. She was 86. Jean Grehlinger was born at the home of her maternal grandparents in Buffalo on April 4, 1927, a daughter to the late Myron and Dorothy (Rifer) Grehlinger.
She grew up and attended school in North Tonawanda and spent her summers at Long Point, Ontario, Canada. Upon graduating from High School, she moved with her family to the Lyndonville area and enrolled in Brockport College, earning a degree in Elementary Education in 1951. After graduating, she taught Kindergarten in Lyndonville for two years. In 1954, Miss Grehlinger became Mrs. Howell and she began teaching Kindergarten at Medina, where she remained until her retirement in 1988, taking a few years off along the way to raise a family.
She enjoyed a wonderful retirement with her husband of 58 years, Roland; and their children, Claudia and Peter. She especially loved her yearly visits to her beloved Costa Rica. Mrs. Howell was a woman who only knew how to be kind. Her nature was generous, always. These things came as naturally to her as breathing and she touched many lives. She was an extraordinary person.
In addition to her husband and her children, Mrs. Howell is survived by two brothers, JT Grehlinger of Albion, NY and Peter (Florence) Grehlinger of Glassboro, NJ; also two cousins, Allan (Jane) Grehlinger of Alabama, NY and Martha Martin of Clarence, NY. She was predeceased by her older sister and brother in-law, Marilyn (Lloyd) Blackwood of California.
The family will be present to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, July 2nd from 2-3 PM at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, where her Memorial Service will immediately follow at 3 PM. The Rev. Nancy Gunther will officiate. Private interment will be in Boxwood Cemetery, Medina. If anyone wishes to make a donation in her name, the family asks that they be made to Hospice of Orleans, P.O. Box 489, Albion, NY 14411, Orleans Community Health Foundation, 200 Ohio St., Medina, NY 14103, Lee-Whedon Memorial Library, 620 West Ave., Medina, NY 14103 or to St. John's Episcopal Church, 200 E.
