Virginia W. Cooper, 93, of Lyndonville, NY, entered into rest on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Medina. Born on March 13, 1920, in Town of Yates, NY, she was the daughter of the late Theodore E. and Martha J. (Barry) Wirth.
She was a member the pioneer Barry family in the Town of Yates 1816. She was the Town of Yates Historian for 30 plus years, retiring in 2006. She was a seamstress and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was an accomplished musician, teaching piano lessons and could play almost any song on the piano at your request. She was a member of the Musician Union Local 97 in Lockport and was the pianist for the Eastern Star # 215, retiring in 1971. She was on the committee to bring the Nutrifare Program to Lyndonville for seniors. She was a member of the Orleans County Historical Society and loved the history of her town and helping people with genealogy. Being firmly rooted in her community she lived in her same home for 68 years.
She is survived by three children, Jerold (Montoya) Cooper of Dawson, GA, Randall (Mary) Cooper of Kenyonville, NY, Christine (Rodney) Bacon of Lockport, NY; five grandchildren, Mike Cooper, Todd Cooper, Scott Cooper, Angie Mitchell, Craig Bacon, Kristy Bacon, Bobby Bacon and 15 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Benjamin; and a sister, Dorothy Wirth.
Relatives and friends may call on Friday, December 20, 2013, from 4-8 PM at the Bates & Tuttle Funeral Home, 112 N. Main St., Lyndonville, NY, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 PM with the Rev. Kim Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Lynhaven Cemetery in the spring.
