Earl Canham


Earl Canham, of Medina, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 18, 2012 at the Martin-Linsin Residence in Albion. Mr. Canham was born in the Town of Ridgeway, September 18, 1920, a son of the late Albert and Mildred (Brown) Canham.
A lifelong area resident, he married the former Marjorie Axtell on March 29, 1941. He farmed on the Axtell Farm in the Town of Ridgeway for twenty-five years and was employed by the NYS DOT, as a heavy equipment operator, for twenty-one years, retiring in 1982. Mr. Canham was a charter member of the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company. He volunteered many hours with the fire company, working bingo and served as treasurer for eighteen years. He enjoyed bowling and loved gardening. He spent many happy hours working in his well-kept yard.
Survivors include his wife of over 71 years, Marjorie; his son, Lynn (Gail) Canham of Medina; two grandchildren, Kelly (Randy) Allen and Brian (Pam) Canham; six great-grandchildren, Scott, Lauren, Kelsey, Darren, Taylor and Bailey; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Ethel Dix and Esther Cornelius; and his brother,  Clifford Canham.
Friends may call on Thursday (4-7 PM) at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center Street, Medina, where his funeral service will be held on Friday at 1 PM. His nephew, Rev. Myke Merrill, pastor of the Parma Christian Fellowship Church, will officiate and interment will be in Bates Road Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Orleans County, POB 489, Albion, NY 14411-0489 or Orleans Community Health, 200 Ohio St., Medina, NY 14103.
