Rev. James Lee Bloom, Sr. 77, of Medina, NY, departed from this life on Monday, April 15, 2013, at his home, with his loving family by his side.
Born on August 24, 1935, in Fort Valley, GA, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Annie Mae (McCray) Bloom.
James was the acting Pastor of The Church of Brotherly Love in Elba, NY for over 30 years. James worked at ABEX for 19 years, then at Fisher-Price for nine years, then went on to retire. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and six months. James loved to spend time with his family, taking walks, fishing and preaching the word of God! James was a strong patriarch of his family and believed in family unity and love for all. He was strong willed and believed in standing up for his rights. He was an active presence in the community, which included caring for and raising numerous children, which led him to becoming a great foster parent for 22 years.
James was predeceased by a brother; two sons; a daughter; a daughter-in-law; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
James leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Edna Mae; three brothers, Albert (Aldora) of Medina, Richard (Tracy) of Columbus, OH, and Leon of Batavia; two sisters, Joyce and Velma of Columbus, OH; seven children, Edward, Anthony, Amir, Raymond, Norman and Marie, all of Medina, and Maryann (Vince Sr.) of Michigan; a Godsend to the family, Angel Kio; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews; and many friends world wide. He was a diehard Bills fan.
Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, April 21, 2013, from 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM at the Bates & Tuttle Funeral Home, 226 Pearl St., Medina. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday at the Calvary Tabernacle Assembly of God, 324 Catherine St., Medina, NY, with Rev. Aldora Bloom officiating. Burial will be in Boxwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made in James name to Hospice of Orleans Co., P.O. Box 489, Albion, NY 14411.
