Walter E. Lewandowski, of Medina, passed away on January 29, 2014 at the VAMC, Buffalo. Mr. Lewandowski was born in Medina on July 30, 1934, the son of the late Anthony and Mary Catherine (Piantek) Lewandowski.
A graduate of Medina High School, Class of 1951, he served in the US Navy. On October 11, 1959, he married the former Barbara L. Levanduski at Sacred Heart Church. Mr. Lewandowski worked in construction framing houses before he started his career at the United States Postal Service. He was a letter carrier and retired as a postal clerk at the Medina Post Office. He was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Parish/Sacred Heart and St. Mary's Churches, a former member of the Sacred Heart Club and a life member of the Lincoln Post #1483, VFW. He enjoyed working with his hands, especially woodworking, writing letters and traveling. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; two sons, Anthony (Chheavhoy) and Robert (Lori); four grandchildren, Nelson, Charlene, Karen and Serena; his sister, Dorothy (Lawrence) Bowen; nieces and nephews.
There will be no prior calling hours. Friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 11 AM at Holy Trinity Parish/St. Mary's Church celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Fawls. Military honors will be accorded at the church following the Mass by members of Lincoln Post #1483, VFW and Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boys Town National Headquarters, 200 Flanagan Boulevard, PO Box 8000, Boys Town, NE 68010.
