BIDDEFORD, ME —
Shirley Schnackel (Riemer) passed away peacefully at St. Andre Health Care in Biddeford, ME early on Thursday morning, April 11, 2013. She was 85. Shirley was born in Lyndonville on November 1, 1927, and married her loving husband, Harold ("Red") Schnackel in 1952. They purchased their home on West Main Street Road, Batavia in 1959. She worked as an administrative assistant at Marine Midland Bank in Batavia for many years before retiring in 1983. Shirley and Harold lived their dream of retiring to Florida, where they stayed until 2000. After Harold passed in December 2000, Shirley resided at Eastwoods Retirement Community in Biddeford for seven years where she enjoyed her neighbors and the social activities.
Shirley was dearly loved and will be missed by all whose lives she touched. In addition to numerous nieces and nephews, survivors include her son, Doug Schnackel of Biddeford; and four sisters and brothers-in-law: Doris (Riemer) and Deane Quintern of Gasport; Margo (Riemer) and Paul Schuner, of Albion; Joyce (Riemer) and Jan Banazwski of Medina; and Carol (Riemer) and Doug Hibbard of Wesley Chapel, FL.
Shirley spoke highly of staff at St. Andre and was very appreciative of the wonderful care she received there during the final months of her life.
Shirley requested no services. Her final resting place will be Lynhaven Cemetery in Lyndonville. A celebration of her life will be at a later date.
