Donald E. Hellert

MEDINA — Mr. Donald E. Hellert of Medina passed away early Sunday morning, January 5, 2014, at his home, with his family by his side.

Mr. Hellert was born in Buffalo, December 15, 1919, a son of the late Edward Christian and Elsie Marie (Mietz) Hellert. A graduate of Akron High School, he served in the US Navy during World War II. A lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wolcottsville, he married the former Mary Adelia LeBlanc at the church on February 8, 1947. The Hellert family resided in West Shelby for many years where he operated a farm and also was employed by Harrison Radiator, Division of GMC, for 25 years. Along with his wife, they were a model for hard work and family values. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, M. Adelia; four children, Donna (Jim) Ferry, Marcia (Rob) Cook, Cindy (Jerry) Moule and Terry (Kim) Hellert; a daughter-in-law, Deb Hellert; nine grandchildren, Amy Delano, Jennie (Willie) Wilson, Carrie (Charlie) Wilson, Ceara Ryan, Tricia (Steve) Partridge, Jeremy Moule, Heidi (Steve) Robb, Eric (Kristina) Moule and Justin (Jessica) Cook; 19 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Marion (late Chet) Washak, Elsie (Walt) Williams, Libby (late Bob) Brauen, Kate (Bill) Thiel and Ruby (Lyle) Schultz; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Randy Hellert; sister, Dorothy (Art) Schuler and brother, Robert "Butch" (Ruth) Hellert.

Friends may call on Wednesday 6-8PM at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, where his funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11AM. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of Lincoln Post #1483, VFW and Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion. Interment will be in the spring at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, West Shelby. Memorials may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6369     Wolcottsville Road, Wolcottsville NY 14001; or Hospice of Orleans County.
