Mrs. Janet L. Groves of Medina, went to be with The Lord on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Buffalo General Hospital.
Born on August 6, 1935 in Buffalo, Mrs. Groves was the daughter of the late Robert and Rose (Mitchell) Schooley. On February 24, 1952, she married Raymond L. Groves. She worked as a secretary at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Buffalo and after moving to the Medina area, she worked at the Lake Plains Pennysaver for over 10 years. Mrs. Groves was a resident of the Medina community for 43 years. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Medina, was involved with Nutrifare and was a member of the Sour Grapes. She also enjoyed camping, traveling, being involved with local plays and was also a beautiful singer.
Mrs. Groves was predeceased by her husband, Raymond L. Groves, on April 2, 2009. Survivors include her four children, Joyce (Lance) Dudek, Ray (Cynthia) Groves, Carol Larson and James Groves; eight grandchildren, Kimberly (Mark) Russo, Craig (Angela) Groves, Christina Groves, Rosalie Dudek, Dana and Jeremy Larson, Andrew and Theodore Groves; nine great-grandchildren, Kelsie LaSpada, Carlie and Grace Russo, Matthew Hess, Isabella Groves and Xander Groves, Danaka Outfield, Landon Markidis and Jayden Kusmiercak; a brother, Dennis (Kathy) Schooley; two sisters, Ann (Dick) Wansart and Dorothy (late Donald) Denneen; and her treasured friend, Nancy Fiegel. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Robert Schooley.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from (4-7PM) at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. Her funeral service will be held at 11AM on Friday at St. John's Episcopal Church, Medina. Burial will be in the spring at Boxwood Cemetery, Medina. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Orleans County.
