ANCHORAGE, AK —
A public memorial service honoring the life of William Robert Woolston will be held Saturday, August 10, at Gaines Congregational Church. Woolston died May 8, 2013 in Anchorage, AK, at the age of 90. After 70 years in Gaines, he had lived the last 20 years of his life in Alaska with his wife, Edna.
In addition to his wife of nearly 70 years, Woolston is survived by five children, 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and eight great- great-grandchildren. His family includes daughter and son-in-law, Shari and Tom Hicks of Spencerport, NY and children, Amy Hughson Banks, Laura Hughson Pinson, Chuck Hughson, Suzy Hicks and Sarah Hicks Lettis; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Rick Smith of Gaines, NY and children, Jay, Aaron and Shawn Morrison; daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Andrew Schaffran of Katonah, NY and children, Lindsay and Brett Schaffran; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Brenda Woolston of Jensen Beach, FL and children, Jennifer Jurs, Kimberly Thornton, Nicholas Woolston and Nicholas Brunston; and son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Kristina Woolston of Anchorage, AK and children, Savannah, Shelby, Noah and Charlotte Woolston. William is also survived by his brother, Glenn Woolston and sister-in-law, Irene and was predeceased by brothers, Merle and Lee and sister-in-law, Margie.
William Woolston was born in Gaines on September 24, 1922 to Floyd and Flora Woolston. In addition to raising a large and loving family, he spent his life as a carpenter, school bus driver and snowplow operator for the Town of Gaines. With his father-in-law, Colonel Ball, he built the Gaines Congregational Church. He spent one year in the U.S. Army during World War II.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 10, at Gaines Congregational Church, located at 14023 Ridge Road W., in Gaines.
