Elton F. Hellert, of Medina, passed away early Wednesday morning, November 6, 2013. Mr. Hellert was born in Medina on March 3, 1927, the son of the late Carl W. and Eva (Laatz) Hellert. He attended Medina High School and graduated from the State University College of Buffalo with a B.S. Degree in Education.
Elton is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary, whom he married on August 27, 1949; his son, Mark (Cheryl) Hellert; daughter, Marcia (Dale) Smith, all of Albion; and granddaughter, Alyssa Hellert (fiance' Mayank Arora) of Austin Texas; along with a brother-in-law and sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Ada Green of Gainesville, FL.
Mr. Hellert was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany as a Staff Sargent in the A.G.D. as a Postal Mechanic. Upon his return to Medina he was employed as an auto mechanic before entering a teaching career at the BOCES Vocational School in Spencerport. Mr. Hellert was an active member and past Commander of the Houseman Tanner Post #1603, American Legion in Lyndonville. During his retirement he enjoyed golfing, summers at their Lake Ontario cottage and spending the winter months in Sun City, AZ.
At the request of Mr. Hellert, the family will not be observing calling hours. A graveside committal service will be held at the convenience of the family at Lynhaven Cemetery, Lyndonville. Full military honors will be accorded by the Houseman Tanner Post #1603. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 1212 West Avenue, Medina. The Rev. Peter Lindemann will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or a charity of one's choice. Arrangements were completed by Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina.
