Sharon Virginia Tinkous

MEDINA — Sharon Virginia Tinkous, 70, of Medina, NY, lost a courageous battle with brain cancer on Friday, January 11, 2013.

Born on May 27, 1942, in Lockport, NY, she was the daughter of the late George and Martha    (Brignall) Ackerson.

For many years Sharon drove tractor trailer alongside her late husband, Howard. She drove school bus for Medina Central School until her retirement. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, sewing and hunting.

Sharon is survived by her loving companion, Ed Buikema; a daughter, Mary Beth Lyons; two     step-sons, Duane (Cindi) Tinkous and Kevin (Phyllis) Tinkous and several grandchildren. Also two sisters, Carol Palmer of Lakeland, FL and Mary (Roger) Cassidy of Waterport; and a brother, Lewis Ackerson of Texas. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins, and two very special nieces, Carey Payne and Tammy Miller.

There are no calling hours. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Mount Albion Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Sharon's name to Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, P.O. Box 631, Buffalo, NY 14240; or to Hospice of Orleans Co., P.O. Box 489, Albion, NY 14411. Arrangements were made with the Bates & Tuttle Funeral Home, 226 Pearl St., Medina, NY 14103.
