MACON, GA —
The Reverend Mr. Edward T. Adkins died July 16, 2013, at the age of 95.
Mr. Adkins was born in Medina, NY on January 16, 1918. He graduated from Medina High School, Hobart College and Virginia Theological Seminary.
Mr. Adkins began his service to the church in Kirkwood, MO at Grace Episcopal Church. He then was called as Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Overland, MS. In 1959 he became the Executive Secretary for Adult Education of the Episcopal Church with offices in New York City. In 1966 he joined Christ Church in Greenwich, CT as Director of Program. In 1973 he was called as Rector of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Mystic, CT where he served for 10 years. After his retirement, Mr. Adkins held several interim appointments in both Connecticut and Massachusetts.
He was predeceased by his father, William H. Adkins and mother, Besse Adkins of Medina, NY. He was married to Elizabeth (Snebold) Adkins for 66 years, who died in August of 2011. A brother, Harry S. Adkins and Sister Margaret also predeceased him.
Mr. Adkins is survived by two sons, Richard and daughter-in-law, Debra of Macon, GA; Roger and daughter-in-law, Sara of East Fairfield, VT; four grandchildren, Christopher, Brian, Ezekiel and Willow; and four great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 20 at St. Francis Episcopal Church Macon at 10 AM. Burial to be in Chesterfield, MA at the family's convenience. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pine Pointe Hospice. Hart's Mortuary and Crematory at the Cupola has charge of arrangements.
