George J. Brower

EAST SHELBY — George J. Brower, 90, of East Shelby, NY, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of Orleans.

He was born on January 24, 1923 in Alfarata, PA, the son of the late Joseph W. and Daisy    (Decker) Brower.

Mr. Brower was a veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theatre of Operation in France,   Belgium and Germany. On March 9, 1944, he married Evelyn Snook and in 1950, moved to the Medina area. At one time he worked for Harrison Radiator and lastly GE, retiring in 1983. George was a member of Millville Methodist Church, the Medina Moose Club, and was a life member of the VFW. He was also a member of the Albion American Legion, the Sheriff's Association, the Western NY Gas & Steam Assoc., WNY Two Cylinder Club and the Sacred Heart Club. Mr. Brower enjoyed fishing, camping, football and at one time bowling.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Brower of Medina, NY; children, Christine Churchfield of Medina, NY, Bonnie (Fred) Preisch of Lockport, NY, Jerry (Pam) Brower of E. Shelby, NY, Carol Stuart of Lockport, NY, Joseph Brower of Medina, NY; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Albert (Katherine) Brower of Lewistown, PA; several nieces and nephews; lifelong friend and great neighbor, Bill Pask of East Shelby, NY.

Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, from 2-6PM at the Bates & Tuttle Funeral Home, 226 Pearl St., Medina, NY 14103, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 16 at 10AM, with the Rev. Kim Smith officiating. Burial will be in Millville Cemetery with military honors accorded by members of Butts-Clark American Legion Post #204 and VFW Lincoln Post #1483. Donations may be made to Hospice of Orleans Co., PO Box 489, Albion, NY 14411; or to Veterans of Foreign Wars, 216 E. Center St., Medina, NY 14103.
