Samuel Stornelli, Sr., 64, of Saint Cloud, formerly of Medina, NY, passed away on October 13, 2013 following a short illness. A Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, Mr. Stornelli was a Life-Member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars and devoted his life to Veterans and Veteran's causes. Despite being left a quadriplegic following a 1976 car accident, Mr. Stornelli earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology in 1986 and a Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling in 1990.
Through his counseling work he was able to help numerous people who suffered from addiction. Throughout his life, Mr. Stornelli relished in the time spent with his family and the extreme joy he took in his painting, but most of all, Sam loved driving his van. He was an example of determination and toughness in the face of seemingly impossible odds.
Mr. Stornelli is survived by his children, Sam, Jr., Michael, and his baby girl, Irene (Thomas) Smathers; his seven grandchildren, Nicole, Ashley, Mikey, Alex, Austin, Emily, and Kaitlyn. Additionally, Mr. Stornelli is survived by his four siblings, Sandy (Marcia), Debbie, Dennis (Gale), and Roger; and ten nieces and nephews.
"In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, stand up and walk." And he took him by the right hand and raised him up; and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. Jumping up, he stood and began to walk. Acts 3:6.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church at a future date and interment with full military honors will be at Bushnell National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Sam's name to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, so his service to Veterans can continue.
