Ellen M. Merrill

Ellen M. Merrill of Medina, NY, was taken from us to be in heaven on Monday, March 18, 2013 following a short battle with health issues. Ellen was born on January 8, 1955 in Medina, daughter of the late Nora "Toby" Sponaugle and Chuck Nudd, Sr.; late step-fathers, Kenneth "Chubby" Sponaugle and Blaine Fitch; along with surviving step-mother, Mertle Fitch.
Ellen was a lifelong resident of the Medina-Lyndonville area, where she was employed by Fisher Price, tended bars and later drove tractor trailer. She enjoyed ceramics, crafting, gardening and spending time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her pride and joy.
She is survived by her "better half", James R. Monell, who took loving care of her through the years; loving mother of four children, Theresa (John) Hackenberg, Heather Yountz, Johnny Sponaugle and Gerald "JJ" (Jamie) Heideman; cherished grandmother of thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild; she was also like a mother to Jim's children, Tom Monell, Kim Monell-Schroeder, Kristine (Randy) Vakiener; and daughter in-law, Michele Stone-Monell; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; loving and caring sister of Christine (Denny) Gibson, Donna Nudd, Rachel (Phil) Spearnanche, Mark (Denise) Callara and Jimmy (Nancy) Callara; also many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive relatives and friends from 3-5 PM on Friday at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, where her funeral service will immediately follow at 5 PM. The Rev. Daniel Thurber, pastor of Oak Orchard Assembly of God Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Bates Road Cemetery.
