Montraville Johnson "Montie" Porter III, of Lyndonville, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the Martin-Linsin Hospice Residence. Mr. Porter was born in Batavia on August 24, 1947, a son of the late Montraville Johnson "James" and Ella Mae (Saunders) Porter, Jr.
A graduate of Batavia High School, he was employed by the New York State Dept. of Corrections, as a corrections officer at the Orleans Correctional Facility and retired in April, 2011. He was a member of the Junior Wilson Sportsmen's Club and a social member of the William J. Gallagher Memorial Veterans' Club. Montie enjoyed playing cards and coin collecting. He loved negotiating and was very effective in "The Art of the Deal".
Survivors include his wife, Anita (Totten); his son, Brett (Tracy) Porter; his daughter, Laura (Mike) Schreiner; four grandsons, Colin, Brenden, John and Brett; four siblings, Roger (Lois) Porter, Norma (Dave) Heale, Eddy (Debbie) Porter and Tom (Mary Lou) Porter; his brother-in-law, Mark Delahanty; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Sharon Delahanty, in November of 2010.
Friends may call on Sunday (4-7 PM) at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 West Center Street, Medina, where his funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 AM. The Rev. Daniel Thurber, pastor of Oak Orchard Assembly of God Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Alabama Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Orleans County, P.O. Box 489, Albion, NY 14411.
