Mary B. Basinait, age 88, of Riches Corners Road, died on December 20, 2012, at her residence, following a long illness. She was born on March 16, 1924 in Albion to Michael and Mary (Smith) Bokman and was a lifelong resident of this area.
Mary was a member of Holy Family Parish, and graduated from Bryant and Stratton Business School where she earned her Accounting Degree. She was elected to and held the position of Orleans County Treasurer for 21 years as well as serving as a member of the NYS Republican Committee for over 30 years. Mary was a member of numerous organization however, her fondest activity was the times she was able to spend with her family.
Mrs. Basinait was predeceased by her husband, L. Charles; a son, L. Michael; and brothers, Joe and James Bokman. She is survived by her sons, Martin (Karen Wellman) Basinait of Albion, Chuck (Andrea) Basinait of Florida, Joe (Cindy) Basinait of Fredonia, Larry Basinait of New Jersey; daughter-in-law, Sarah Basinait of Albion; brothers, Mike Bokman of Victor, Hank Bokman of New Jersey, and Butch Bokman of Lockport; sisters, Veronica Cameron of Middleport, Rita Lewis of North Carolina; grandchildren, Lisa Pritchard, Stacey, Nicole, Megan, Erin, Samuel, Alissa, James, and Jacquie Basinait; and one great-granddaughter, Carol Grace Pritchard.
The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., on FRIDAY, December 28th (Please note the date), from 1-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Family and friends are invited to attend Mary’s Mass of Christian Burial on SATURDAY, December 29th at 10:00 AM in Holy Family Parish. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Orleans or the Church.
