RANSOMVILLE SPEEDWAY: DIRTcar Series takes over the Big R

Back-to-back nights of racing took place at Ransomville Speedway on Thursday and Friday, with a total of 201 cars racing and more than 3,00 fans in attendance.

Friday night, Ricky Washburn took top honors in the Ki-Po Chevrolet Streetstock mid-season championship event. Although, he led the entire way, the win didn’t come easy for Washburn, as his cousin, Kenny Washburn, and Dave Conant provided consistent pressure. Conant was second and Kenny Washburn took third.

In the Original Pizza Logs sportsman division, James Michael Friesen captured his third win of the season.

Ransomville’s Jim Stone topped the field in the Bobcat of Buffalo Firehall Enduro Series. It was Stone’s second win of the season, as we was able to hold off second-place finisher Mark Brown.

Derek Wagner won the boat race by default as he was the only one with a boat remaining after the fifth lap. There were a total of six boat/car entries in the inaugural event.

Ransomville’s Eugene Washburn captured the win in the 4/6 cylinder enduro.

On Thursday, the annual Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series event was held at the Big R. The best crowd of the season was on hand to watch 42 modifieds, 28 sportsman and 20 streetstocks in action.

Billy Decker took the top spots in the Super DIRTcar Series event, taking the lead from Robbie Krull on a lap 15 restart and never being challenged after that. Decker’s crew chief, Scott Jeffery, is a Ransomville native.

Krull, Alan Johnson, Stewart Friesen and Todd Burley rounded out the top five.

Ransomville’s Don Spatorico captured his first win of 2008 in the sportsman division, with Steve Schumacher taking second. Spatorico is second in points behind Friesen.

Niagara Falls resident Alex Morris took first in the 15-lap Ki-Po Chevrolet streetstock feature.
