The Roy-Hart girls basketball team had a successful weekend in its own tournament, downing Bennett 61-55 on Friday night before hanging tough with Nichols in a 51-41 loss in Saturday's tournament championship. Also in local girls hoops, Lyndonville edged past Medina by a 28-21 margin.
After a season-opening win over Oakfield-Alabama, the Medina boys basketball team picked up right where it left off in Friday night's 54-41 victory over Burgard. It was a total team effort for the Mustangs, just the way coach Tom Forrestel envisioned before the season.
The Medina girls basketball team played excellent defense early against Pembroke on Thursday night, limiting the Lady Dragons to just three points — and no field goals — in the first quarter. But the young Lady Mustangs squad couldn't generate a consistent attack, suffering a 37-20 defeat.
First-year coach Brennan Meakin and the Albion boys basketball team fought hard at Burgard on Wednesday evening, but came up just short in a 51-47 setback. Manny Thompson and Des Blackmon had 11 points apiece for the Albion squad, which is now 1-1 on the young season.
