QUEENSBURY — Junior Hayden Hathaway led Barker with a time of 16:51, as the Raider boys cross country team closed its season with a strong effort at the Class D state meet at Queensbury HS on Saturday afternoon.
Hathaway finished in 28th place overall, 1:05 behind winner Jeremy Spiezio of Greenwich HS, who clocked in at 15:46.
Mount Academy (Section IX) won the team title, led by junior Keith Baird, who finished fourth overall at 16:05.
Barker junior Sergio Cruz was 39th with a time of 17:12.7, while Raider junior Bryce Moeller placed 40th at 17:17.2.
Barker junior Douglas Bachman was 51st at 17:30.1, and the Raiders’ Casey Webb was 58th at 17:39.1.
The Raider lineup was rounded out by junior Dustin Walters (66th-17:59.8) and junior Christopher Sweeney (69th-18:02.5). The field was comprised of 120 runners from Class D schools all across New York state.
Barker earned the right to send a full lineup of seven runners to the state meet by emerging victorious in the Section VI meet at Long Point State Park in Bemus Point on Nov. 1. The triumph in Bemus Point marked the Raiders’ seventh consecutive Class D sectional title, as Barker has emerged as a perennial cross country powerhouse under coach Paul DerSarkissian.
Senior Matt Gill of Watkins Glen finished second at the state meet with a time of 15:53.7, while Argyle junior Daryn Hutchings took third place at 15:58.9.
Fayetteville-Manlius of Section III emerged as the Class A champion, while Pittsford-Mendon (Section V) won the Class B crown. Holland Patent (Section III) took the Class C title.
